Etsy's fee structure is more complex than most other marketplaces because it stacks several different charges. New sellers are often surprised by how much the fees total — in some cases 15–20% of the sale price before the cost of goods.

1. Listing Fee — $0.20 per item

Charged each time you create or renew a listing. Listings automatically renew every 4 months. If you list 100 items and none sell, you pay $20 in listing fees every 4 months.

2. Transaction Fee — 6.5% of sale price

Applied to the item price plus any shipping you charge. If you charge $30 for an item and $5 for shipping, the transaction fee applies to $35. This is the largest Etsy fee for most sellers.

3. Payment Processing Fee

For Etsy Payments (the default), the fee varies by country. For US sellers: 3% + $0.25 per transaction. UK: 4% + £0.20. EU: 4% + €0.30. This fee is charged on the full amount the buyer pays, including shipping.

4. Offsite Ads Fee — 12% or 15%

Etsy automatically advertises your listings on Google, Facebook and other platforms. If a buyer clicks an Offsite Ad and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges:

• 12% if your shop made over $10,000 in the past 12 months (mandatory, cannot opt out)
• 15% for shops under $10,000 (can opt out)

Real Example: What Does an Etsy Seller Keep?

Item price: $25. Shipping: $5. Total buyer pays: $30.

• Listing fee: −$0.20
• Transaction fee (6.5% of $30): −$1.95
• Payment processing (3% + $0.25 of $30): −$1.15
• Total fees: $3.30 → Seller receives: $26.70 (before COGS)

If this sale came from an Offsite Ad at 15%, add another −$3.75, leaving $22.95. Factor in COGS and you can see why pricing is critical on Etsy.

Etsy Plus — Is It Worth It?

Etsy Plus costs $10/month. It gives you 15 listing credits ($3 value) and $5 in Etsy Ads credit — a combined $8 value, making it a net loss unless you use all the perks. Most sellers should only subscribe if they want the customisation features (custom domain, restock requests).
